Lathkill Dale Bridge

Bateman's Bridge arched bridge in oak

Specification

Span - 8 metres.
Width - minimum 1.2 metres.
Maximum slope 1 in 8.
Suitable for adventurous wheelchair access relevant to this remote site.

This oak bridge is a true arch and therefore the design could be extended to 16 metres.

This view shows the approach to the oak bridge in Lathkill Dale which is part of the Derbyshire Dales National Nature reserve.

The bridge will go silver grey within a year of construction.

An interesting alternative to the wooden parapets would be the use of steel wire rope.
